Essentials

Fencing Theory

• The Four Times Vor, Nach, Indes, & Gleich (before, after, in-the-moment, and simultaneously)
• The Three Stages of the Exchange
• The Three Types of Strike: Provoker, Hitter, & Taker

Longsword

Posture

• Cross stance

Footwork

• Triangle step
• False/Cross Step

Guards/Postures

Secondary Guards

Low Side Guards

• Schranckhut (barrier guard)

High Side Guards

• Mittelhut (middle guard)
• Schlussel (key)

Centreline Guards

• Kron (crown)
• Eisenport (iron gate)

Hanging Guards

Guards Progression

The student should be able to perform the progression of guards as a flourish to demonstrate movement and coordination.

Strikes

Principal Cuts

Cuts need only be performed at moderate speed showing form and technique.

Thwart cut variations:

• Zwerch (thwart)

Plunging cut variations:

False edge cuts which parry:

Fencing Free-play

The students shall demonstrate their ability to fence using the principles from Meyer's system in the following conditions:

• Fight a 2 minute bout at moderate speed showing control and flow

Wrestling

• Arm locks 1-5 against a static opponent
