Failing

The act of redirecting a cut smoothly part way through and cutting through to another opening. This differs from Verfliegen in that it is a smooth redirection rather than jerking away.

Application Examples

In which the 'student' demonstrates their knowledge to the 'teacher' of a failing attack which moves off to each side.

Long edge parry. Before impact, lift the pommel and let the blade run off to your right in a circle (Zirckel) by the left side.
Step left and cut over with a Zornhauw to the upper right opening.

Long edge parry. Before impact, lift the pommel under the right arm to cross over the wrists, and let the blade run off to your left in a circle (Zirckel) by the right side.
