A movement to the left or right, generally in a circle.

Hutton considers this to be advantageous against fencers who rush into the fight.

Traversing to the left is performed by stepping about six inches offline to the left then following up with the right.

Traversing to the right begins with the right foot moving to the right 6 inches, then the left following up.

Hutton is strictly against any crossing of the feet.
