After

The natural opposite of vor, the “after” refers either to reaction immediately after your opponent has attacked or, as Meyer describes, the actions you take to withdraw after an engagement.

As with the vor, movements in the nach can be strategic (one might cut to each of the openings as one retreats our of distance), or indes (for example if your opponent goes high you might press the arms and shove him away to create distance).

Generally there is a flow of vor and nach between fencers as they each vie for advantage.
