Medium guard
From Scholar Victoria
Neither Quarte nor Tierce but immediately between the two guarding the centreline.
This is Hutton's preferred guard for fencing as it can be held for long periods without fatigue and allows the fencer to rapidly parry in quarte or tierce.
In especially long bouts or when fatigued, and out of distance of the opponent, the fencer can rest the shell on the lead leg and let the point drop for a few moment before coming on guard again.
