Long Point

Longsword

Langenort.png

A centreline guard held point forward & slightly upward toward the face of the opponent, in a forward weighted posture. Left longpoint is performed with the right leg forward, left longpoint with the right forward.

The blade can be angled to either side or vertical depending on the need.

This is the transitional point through which cuts from above pass (eg. oberhauw). It is also used as a guard, being particularly useful for changing through durchwechseln, and is closely related to gerade versetzung and eisenport.

Dussack

Just as the longsword guard of the same name, the long point position is a front weighted posture with the sword arm extended well out in front, though not with the body overly turned away from the opponent's line. The blade may be angled to either side somewhat as needed.

This is the end point of the cutting part of the canonical Oberhauw with the dussack.

Rappier

Fundamentally identical to longpoint with longsword, and providing all of the same capabilities. The only difference is that the right leg is always kept forward with the rappier. Meyer advocates three parries in longpoint:
