Gain Ground on the Lunge
From Scholar Victoria
Generally only used against opponents who shuffle or spring back too much after you attack them.
From the lunge, instead of recovering to the original position, bring the rear foot forward until the correct distance between the feet is attained.
In doing so Hutton tells us to keep an erect body and head position, and come to a proper guard with the sword in moving, so as to prevent a Time Hit.
