A mittelhauw struck at shin level (see the cutting diagram below). We are admonished to only use the foot cut if:

• We have weakened him with suppressing
• We have taken his blade away with some other technique
• He is neglectful
• He has gone too far upward with cuts

The reason for this is that like the Zornhauw to the lower openings this requires us to lunge deep and lower our body to the level of our cut, placing us at significant risk in the strike.
