Suppressing is a good example of Meyer's advice that parrying and covering over the opponent's blade is the superior method of parring and puts you in a better position to control the situation and follow up.

[edit] Dempffen

Related to Slicing Off but more forceful and not slicing all the way offline; the fencer cuts down to an Eisenport or Pflug like position to deflect the blade down somewhat forcefully and follow up with cuts or thrusts.

Suppressing is a good example of Meyer's advice that parrying and covering over the opponent's blade is the superior method of parring and puts you in a better position to control the situation and follow up.

See the Oberhauw Application 2 for an example of suppressing with the Oberhauw.
