Simply a Zornhauw used to parry a thrust or cut. These cuts are particularly used when struck to the upper openings. The defence strike should be cut at the same level as the incoming attack. So a high cut would be negated by a defence strike at shoulder level, while a cut to the hands might be defended against with a hip-cut height defence strike.
